, you already know that I’m a beach lover. I love the sea, the colors of it, and need to be close to the beach feeling the sand, filling up my days with warm sun and happiness. As an interior designer I would love to help you to create the same feeling that you experience on your holiday. Here’s a really simple way to create a nice worn, antique look distressed wood picture frame bringing the beach and sunshine in your home. Even if you visit the sea only in summers, making this decoration you can always feel like you’re on holiday.

Wooden Frame: of your choice.
Paint: I used Titan varnish, but you can use any brand.
Titanlux Brown – satin varnish, 1004
Titanlak White – satin lacquer, 1400
Paint Brush
Sand Paper or Block
Wax or Balm
Mini Wooden Clips: White
Natural Jute Twine String
1 Photo
Scissors
Decoration: Pebbles, Sea Shell, small glass bottles…etc. (Optional)

Take a picture frame of your choice. If you don’t have any, you can find really simple ones in the IKEA. First remove the glass plate from the picture frame, separate the frame from the back. Painting them one by one, prepare them for the decoration. First use the base Brown – satin varnish coat, after the first layer dried, using a small amount of Wax or Balm between the two layers apply the second layer, White – satin lacquer. Let it dry, and distress it with the sand paper. Click here to see the detailed tutorial for distressing.

Take the Natural Jute Twine String, and place it around 2-3 cm (13/16”-1 3/16”) from the top of the bottom part of the frame. It doesn’t matter if it’s not horizontal, as more randomly you place the twine string, as more natural look you get.

Turn the bottom part upside down, and fix it on the other side with a knot.

Place it in the frame, and fix it on the sides.

Now you’ll need a photo. If you have a family phot or with friends about your holiday on the beach it’s perfect. If not, don’t worry. Print a photo you like, where you would like to travel, or whatever picture makes you feel good and relaxed.

Using the Mini Wooden Clips fix the photo to the twine string.
If you want, you can decorate it with smaller and bigger sea shells, white pebbles, nautical decorations. If you have a bigger picture frame you can also hang two photos in the same tone of color, or in different ones to make it even more alive and colorful.
If you prefer you can leave it like that, and can place the decorations around the picture frame. You can use decoration send, small bottles filling it up with a piece of paper with a message…etc. Imagine you’re at the beach. What is your favorite object? What colors do you find there?
